About

I am currently an instructor in the English Language Center at Ming Chuan University in Taipei. I have lived in Taiwan since 1996 and prior to joining MCU in 2002 taught business English in Taipei and Taipei County. Before Taiwan, I taught at universities, colleges, and business companies in South Korea and Japan.

My regular blog doesn’t feature any photographs whatsoever. If you want to see what I look like, you’ll have to go to Michael Turton’s blog where he has a number of photos of me, including this one, which I quite like. You can find out more about me from Facebook.

I am very active and have played sports all of my life. I played rugby for many years on teams in East Asia and Canada. These days, I compete in various types of grappling events. I have been awarded a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by Tommy Hsieh who is the highest ranking BJJ coach in Taiwan. Also, I am one of only a handful of foreign residents and the first Canadian to be awarded a black belt in Judo by the ROC Judo Federation.

On 28 November 2008, a five-man over-40 team from Shuang Yuan Judo won the gold medal in the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Cup. You can find pictures from the event here.

I am married and live in Taipei County with my wife and our cat.
